What is Fat?

Fat is a caloric nutrient containing nine (9) calories per gram. There are several classifications of fats with the two main types being Saturated and Unsaturated Fats.

Saturated fats are primarily found in animal sources while unsaturated fats are primarily found in plant sources and are liquid at room temperature.

Fat's role in the body is to provide energy for aerobic metabolism, assist in cell membrane structure and function, mobilize fat-soluble vitamins, and contributes to feeling full at the end of a meal along with many other important processes.
